Pakistan: The new Prime Minister of Pakistan will be elected on March 3, PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif leads the race.

General elections were held in Pakistan on February 8. In this, most of the independent candidates supporting Imran Khan had won. However, no party could get the required seats to form the government.

Pakistan will get a new Prime Minister on Sunday i.e. March 3. Yesterday, the Secretariat of the National Assembly of Pakistan announced the schedule of election of the new Prime Minister of the country. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif is considered to be the frontrunner in the race for the post of Prime Minister.

According to the information, candidates can submit their nomination forms till 2 pm on Saturday. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be completed on the same day. The process of electing the Prime Minister will be done through newly elected MPs.

Who is in the race for PM post?

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated 72-year-old Shehbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister.

Omar Ayub Khan is the candidate of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Presidential election program will also be released soon

Earlier it was reported that the Election Commission (ECP) may release the presidential election schedule on March 1, in which the victory of Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is considered almost certain. Pakistani media quoted the ECP spokesperson as saying that all four provincial assemblies will come into existence by February 29 and then the work of forming the electoral college required for the presidential election will be completed.

Zardari was the President of the country from September 2008 to 2013.

A six-party alliance is set to form a new coalition government at the Center under the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif. PML-N has declared Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as its presidential candidate. Zardari had previously been the President of the country from September 2008 to 2013.

Hung results were revealed

The elections held on February 8 had revealed hung results. No party got a clear majority. After which PML-N and PPP decided to form an alliance. This alliance was formed on the condition that PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari would get the post of President. Whereas Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, will get the post of Chief Minister of Punjab province.

Presidential elections are necessary within 30 days

According to Article 41 of the Constitution, the election of the President should be held within 30 days of the completion of the general elections. General elections were held on February 8. This means presidential elections should be held before February 9.
