Fitness is becoming the top priority for tech heads. We have often seen global tech CEOs, including Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook, sharing their fitness journeys and emphasizing the importance of health to grow personally and professionally. Not just international firms, but Indian companies are also introducing fitness as a part of the professional journey. Recently, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced the appointment of Anmol Gupta as the Chief Fitness Officer (CFO) in a bid to prioritize the well-being of employees, delivery partners, and restaurant partners.
Goyal, in his recent blog post, shared the company’s future plan to invest more in the fitness and well-being of his employees. “Going forward, we will invest wholeheartedly in the well-being of our employees, delivery partners, and restaurant partners,” he wrote.
He further revealed that the new Zomato CFO will collaborate with an in-house wellness team comprising trainers, nutritionists, and well-being counselors.
Talking about the inspiration for the new fitness transformation, Zomato CEO reveals his own fitness journey inspired this move. “In 2019, a few months before the pandemic, I started treating my health as an equal priority to my work. My hypothesis was that I would be able to produce more and better quality work if I were in peak physical (and mental) shape,” said Goyal.
He further revealed that over the course of four years, he successfully reduced his weight from 87 kg in 2019 to 72 kg in 2023. Moreover, his body fat percentage also dropped from 28 per cent to 11.5 per cent. However, during his fitness journey, the Zomato CEO shares that he did not cut back on his favorite foods and admitted to having occasional cheat days where he enjoyed Cholle Bhature, Butter Chicken, and Gulab Jamun.
In his fitness journey, Goyal emphasized that consistency without extremities has positively impacted his overall health, both physical and psychological.
Zomato hires new CFO
As for the new CFO of Zomato, the official blog shares that the new CFO, Anmol Gupta, will play a crucial role in supporting Zomans (Zomato employees) on their individual wellness journeys. Collaborating with trainers, nutritionists, and well-being counselors, the CFO will assist in weight and strength training, yoga, boxing, and more. Nutritionists will closely monitor the macro and micronutrient intake of Zomans, ensuring their meal plans are well-rounded.
Furthermore, the company will also establish a new fitness facility in Gurugram, which will allow Zomato employees to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Additionally, Goyal has announced the implementation of a mental health support team, which will provide a safe space for open conversations and professional guidance.
In line with their commitment to employee well-being, Zomato is also introducing period leaves to support women’s health. Furthermore, the company is also offering parental leaves of six months for parents, including same-sex parents and those who become parents through surrogacy or adoption.
