Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan lost his chair after the vote on the no-confidence motion. The opposition had presented a no-confidence motion against him in Parliament, which proved to be very difficult for Imran to overcome. The opposition got 174 votes.

Imran Khan’s chair in Pakistan is finally gone. The results of the voting on the no-confidence motion held late on April 9 spoiled Imran’s score. During this neither Imran Khan was present in the National Assembly nor did his party members take part in the voting. The opposition got 174 votes, although 172 votes were needed to form the government.

Earlier, the Imran-led PTI coalition had 179 members, but left with 164 members after leaving it with the rest of the allies, including the MQM-P. On the other hand, the number of opposition was being considered to be 177. Imran’s 24 MPs were said to be rebels. However, eventually Imran Khan’s government fell.

The leaders of the opposition parties, who brought a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan, had already decided the name of the PM candidate. On Saturday also, before the voting, the leaders of the opposition parties held a meeting and elected Shahbaz Sharif as their leader. It is clear that Shahbaz Sharif will be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.

In the 2018 general election, Shahbaz was declared the prime ministerial candidate by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). However, then Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the election.

Leader of the Opposition in the House, has a lot of experience
The full name of Shahbaz Sharif is Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He was born on 23 September 1951 in Lahore. Elder brother Nawaz Sharif has been the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi went to Pakistan during the time of Nawaz Sharif. At present, Shahbaz is the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Pakistan. He has been the Chief Minister of Punjab province of Pakistan thrice.

Father used to do business in India, went to Pakistan after partition
Shahbaz’s father Mian Muhammad Sharif was a businessman. He was a resident of Anantnag district of Kashmir, while his mother was a resident of Pulwama. During the Indo-Pak partition, Shahbaz’s father had gone to Pakistan.

Apart from Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz has another elder brother Abbas Sharif. Shahbaz married his cousin Nusrat Shahbaz in 1973. They had four children, Salman, Hamza, Javeria and Rabia. In 2003, Shahbaz married Tehmina Durrani for the second time.

Political career started like this

  • Shahbaz studied at the Government College in Lahore. After this he started his career as a businessman.
  • In 1985, he became the President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. From here he entered politics.
  • In 1987, he entered active politics. Contested the first election in 1988 and won.
  • In 1997, he became the Chief Minister of the Punjab province of Pakistan for the first time. After this he became the Chief Minister in 2008 and again in 2013.
  • In 2018, took over the command of the Pakistan Muslim League and became the president.
  • He was elected the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament after the election defeat in 2018.

Have gone to jail
Shahbaz has also gone to jail in a case of money laundering in 2020. He got bail in 2021. Then Shahbaz had said that he was being implicated due to political malice.
