Motorola is set to launch its first flagship phone of 2023 in India on May 23 after launching a bunch of budget and mid-budget smartphones. Dubbed, Motorola Edge 40, the phone sits between the Motorola Edge 30 Pro and Edge 30 Fusion of last year, at least based on specifications. Ahead of the launch, the company has already set up its official page on Flipkart, which also lists some of the key specifications and the design. The Flipkart listing shows a green variant with a faux leather-like cover. Customers will also get to choose between black and blue colour variants.
The official poster reveals a curved display with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. Motorola is also upgrading the refresh rate to 144Hz for a faster and smoother scrolling and gaming experience. Motorola has clarified that the Motorola Edge 40 features a 6.5-inch display with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The company is using a pOLED panel with 100 per cent DCI-P3 colour gamut and HDR10+ support. The pOLED is similar to the popular OLED and AMOLED and offers deeper blacks. pOLED is also relatively lighter and helps the phone maintain a sleek design.
The Motorola Edge 40 is also the first Motorola smartphone to include MediaTek’s Dimensity 8020 SoC. Last year’s Motorola Edge 30 Pro features Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 by Qualcomm. The MediaTek chipset comes paired with up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
The last few Edge smartphones have also focused heavily on the camera, and we can expect the same with Motorola Edge 40. The Flipkart page reveals a 50-megapixel primary camera on the back with support for OIS (optical image stabilisation). The OIS tech help with more stable videos and photos. There is also going be a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera that can double as a macro shooter. Motorola offers the same capability with the ultra-wide camera on Edge 30 Pro and Edge 30 Fusion. The front will include a 32-megapixel front camera sensor.
The Motorola Edge 40 is powered by a 4,440mAh battery with 68W wired charging. The smartphone also has 15W fast charging, which remains uncommon in many Android phones. Motorola is boasting Edge 40’s clean Android UI experience. The phone ships with Android 13, meaning you can enjoy the latest Android productivity and privacy features. The phone will also receive Android 14 OS, but the exact timeline remains unclear.
The price remains unclear, though based on the specifications we can expect the phone to cost around Rs 45,000. Currently, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion starts at Rs 39,999, and the Edge 30 Ultra costs Rs 49,999.
