The government is again giving an opportunity to buy cheap gold. The second tranche of Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) scheme 2022-23 is opening from Monday i.e. 22nd August. You can invest in this for the next five days i.e. till August 26. This time RBI has fixed a price of Rs 5,197 per gram for Sovereign Gold Bond, while gold is running around Rs 52,000 per 10 grams in the Delhi bullion market. If you apply online for Sovereign Gold Bond, you will get a discount of Rs 50 per gram. This means you will have to pay only Rs 5,147 for one gram of sovereign gold bond.
2.50 percent interest is available every year

20.8% tax if withdrawal before 8 years
Sovereign Gold Bond has a maturity period of 8 years. There is no tax on gains made after this period. If you withdraw money from SGB after 5 years, then 20.80 per cent long term capital gains tax is levied on the gains made.
Payment for Sovereign Gold Bonds can be done in cash, demand draft or through electronic banking. You can pay in cash up to a maximum of Rs.20,000.
In SGB, a person can invest up to 4 kg of gold. For Hindu undivided families and trusts, the limit is 20 kg.
